We are pleased to share that the Iraq Climate Change Center (IC3+) has joined the Santiago Network, a UNFCCC-linked mechanism that connects climate-vulnerable developing countries with technical assistance, knowledge, and expertise to help them avert, minimize, and address loss and damage caused by climate change.
The Santiago Network plays an important role in connecting developing countries that are particularly vulnerable to climate change with technical assistance, expertise, and knowledge to help avert, minimize, and address loss and damage associated with the adverse effects of climate change.
For Iraq, this agenda is increasingly urgent. Rising temperatures, prolonged drought, water stress, desertification, dust storms and pressure on livelihoods are already shaping the country’s development and climate resilience priorities.
IC3+’s membership marks an important step in strengthening Iraq’s engagement with international climate mechanisms and expanding opportunities for cooperation on climate resilience, adaptation, and loss and damage.
We look forward to contributing to the work of the Santiago Network and supporting efforts to address climate-related risks in Iraq and the wider region.
