The Iraq Climate Change Center (IC3+), in collaboration with The Political and Governance Development Academy, hosted a live public conversation examining Iraq’s climate outlook in the wake of COP30 and the practical requirements of a just transition toward a more resilient, low-carbon economy.

The session brought together policy and technical perspectives on how accelerating climate stress, particularly drought, has been reshaping Iraq’s economy, livelihoods, and national policy choices. Speakers also explored the scale of coordination needed across government institutions, the private sector, and communities to translate climate commitments into credible implementation pathways.

The discussion featured Mr. Yousif Muayad Yousif, Director of the Climate Change Center at Iraq’s Ministry of Environment, who addressed the evolving policy landscape and the importance of aligning climate priorities with social protection and development needs. The session was moderated by Hashim AlHussaini, Energy Expert and Vice President at The Political and Governance Development Academy, who guided the conversation toward concrete questions on what a just transition could mean in the Iraqi context.

The event concluded with an interactive exchange with participants, highlighting growing public interest in the link between climate action, economic resilience, and safeguarding vulnerable communities as Iraq navigates intensifying environmental pressures.
